![[FLSE] sets the stage for formal communication about what is important and expected in relationships.](../images/text_flsesetsthestage.gif)
This component covers much more than body parts, family planning and disease. It sets the stage for formal communication about what is important and expected in relationships. The principal objective is sexual literacy. The content, in an age and stage-appropriate fashion, addresses body image, gender roles, social roles, family roles, sexual orientation and all other aspects of sexuality that contribute to a holistic view. Ideally, a trained male/female teaching duo offers this component - not only to young people participating in the program but to their parents and other adults as well. (In practice, however, the FLSE component is usually offered by a single staff member.) The content should be geared to the age and maturity levels of the participants. In some cases, it may be useful to separate boys and girls (especially at younger ages), bringing them together occasionally.
